WHAT IS ELDER LAW?

Elder Law is the legal practice of counseling and representing older persons and their representatives about legal aspects of health and long-term care planning; public benefits; surrogate decision-making; older persons' legal capacity; the conservation, disposition and administration of older persons' estates; and the implementation of their decisions concerning such matters, giving due consideration to the applicable tax consequences of the action, or the need for more sophisticated tax expertise.

Other elder law areas include dealing with Medicare, Medicaid and other government benefits; abuse, neglect, and exploitation issues; age discrimination; charitable giving; and a host of other practice areas.

WHAT DOES AN ELDER LAW ATTORNEY DO?

An elder law attorney always represents the elderly client. Our job is to act in the best interest of the elderly client, even if that is adverse to what their family or individual family members wish.
